Paws-itively Amazing: Assistance Dog Sessions
For two incredible days, my studio was filled with wagging tails, warm eyes, and endless energy as I had the privilege of photographing dogs and their handlers for a special fundraising calendar. As a dog lover, I couldn’t have been more excited to spend this time surrounded by such amazing animals. Knowing that this project would contribute to a great cause made it even more rewarding.
The funds raised from the calendar will support Care Dogs & Co, a Tasmanian organisation dedicated to helping people train assistance dogs to improve their lives. Assistance dogs are incredible companions, specially trained to help their handlers with physical, mental, or emotional challenges. They provide support in everyday life, from helping with mobility to easing anxiety, and even offering emotional comfort during tough times.
It’s amazing how much of a difference these dogs can make. They don’t just assist with tasks; they give their owners confidence, independence, and a sense of connection. Care Dogs & Co works closely with their clients to train dogs using positive, reward-based methods, creating partnerships that transform lives.
Photographing the dogs and their handlers was a unique and exciting experience. Each dog had its own personality, and capturing that on camera was both fun and challenging. In my studio, I experimented with different lighting setups to highlight each team’s bond and bring out the unique traits of every dog. Whether it was a playful pup with boundless energy or a calm, attentive companion, the love and connection between them and their handlers came through in every shot.
This project reminded me of how much I enjoy photographing pets and their owners. It’s such a joy to capture the special relationships people have with their animals. Whether it’s in the studio or out in nature, I’d love to do more sessions like this in the future.
Being part of this project was an absolute honour. Seeing the dedication and love between the handlers and their dogs was heartwarming, and knowing the impact these calendars will have on people’s lives made it even more meaningful.
